| What is the message? More than 3,000 students in several schools in Kambia and Bombali West districts, several hundred others on roadways, beaches and police stations and at the God's House complex were given the "Love Yourself" HIV/AIDS prevention awareness message. God's House International, Inc. is committed to bridging the gap that transcends the medical, economic, cultural and social issues in Sierra Leone, as well as, in the United States and the developing world. It is our belief that the continued empowerment of women and youth will bring this message to the masses of people who need to hear it and see it into its fruition. While we have noticed and increased awareness with reference to the female condom, we have found that many people still lack adequate supplies of this resource. While there have been many young women who readily received the message of HIV/AIDS prevention and condom use as a means of birth control, there are still many who remain reluctant. This trend of reluctance in the women should be monitored closely. Our interaction with the people who received the message showed God's House not only that there is a great need for the message, but, also, that there are many who are very enthusiastic about sharing the message of disease prevention with their communities. Next Steps We, at God's House International, recommend more frequent ongoing sensitization and distribution of male and female condoms over the next five years coupled with annual monitoring of HIV/AIDS rates and population trends. GHI will be carrying out missions to Sierra Leone on a yearly basis. Details will be provided as our outreach dates approach. We, also, recommend monthly sensitization and condom distribution in the Secondary schools (ages 12-19), on the beach fronts, and in the night clubs. The people of Sierra Leone are ready to receive this message. We have seen the enthusiasm and hunger for the training and resources. A proactive outreach campaign can make the vision of HIV/AIDS and poverty reduction in Sierra Leone a reality. Yvonne Washington-Turay MSN, FNP, APRN-BC Founder, God's House International Inc. |
