God's House International
West African Health Day, February 19, 2008, met the team in the Village of Gbendembu.  The
HIV/AIDS outreach was presented in front of more than 700 seconday school students.  Mr. Santigue
Koroma, Principal of Gbendembu Secondary school reported that he was appalled at the high
numbers of young women experiencing pregnancy in his village.  He reported that he has already had
seven (7) young women out of school due to pregnancy.  He stated that he knows of at list two 11 and
12 year old girls who were pregnant in the Gbendembu area; one has already delivered.  "This
problem has got to be controlled." he stated.  He was happy about the HIV/AIDS work done by GHI.
He also requested that we go to the primary school.

Mrs. Mariama Boima Kargbo who is a teacher at Gebendembu Secondary school and a Pastor at
Samaria Baptist Church expressed her delight in the HIV/AIDS outreach. She said these pitkin
(children) are having "the practical [real life] exam before they come to school as well as after they
leave.  They know what you are talking about."  She also stated the message of faithfulness in a
relationship is very important.  Two SPW educators were also on site, Mr. Alpha BY Kamara and Ms.
Tenneh S. Conte.  They reported that they hold HIV/AIDS sensitization meetings on a weekly basis.
Attendance at these meetings is approximately 10 to 20 students max.  They also expressed concern
that there is a lack of available condoms to distribute and this hinders the message they are giving.
The female condom, they reported, just surfaced this year in the district and they only have a few
which they use for demonstration purposes.  They, too, were grateful for the reinforcement of the
message and requested that we assist them in getting more supplies, in order that they may do a
more effective job with their outreaches.
