Christmas 2006 Community Outreach
December 24, 2006
St. Thomas, USVI
EVENT SUMMARY
As the sun shone brightly on Sunday, December 24, 2006, Yvonne Washington-Turay, President of God’s
House International Inc and Ms. Lauris Harley, Secretary and Events Coordinator began their task of
providing a holiday meal to the homeless individuals of the St. Thomas Community. Approximately fifty
people received hefty portions of rice and peas, macaroni and cheese, rotisserie chicken, potato stuffing
and an assortment of native drinks, juice and pastries. Ms Turay and Ms. Harley were joined by two
practical nursing students Marie Pierre and Sarah Quetel who provided blood pressure screening to eleven
people. Everyone ate to their hearts content. A nearby merchant played Christmas songs and people were
even dancing in the street. To the surprise of many, gift packs that included carrying bags, hygiene items
and snacks were wrapped up beautiful Christmas array and given to the clients. This was yet another
successful mission. It is our hope that by next year this time, we will have a fully functional clinic and
transitional housing in place for these needy individuals. After all was said and done, some slept on the
bench, other went on their way and others lay down on the street.
